Terms of Service

1. Who you are agreeing with

These terms cover your use of Parallax: this website, the accounts and billing behind it, the After Effects panel we distribute, and the relay service that passes messages between people in a session.

2. Your account

You need an account to host a session. Keep your password to yourself, use a real address we can reach you at, and tell us if you think someone else has got into your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live. One human per account — do not share a login with your whole studio, that is what the Studio plan is for.

3. Plans, billing and renewals

Plans are billed in advance on a monthly cycle through our payment processor. Only the host of a session needs a plan; guests join free. Your plan sets how many people can be in your room at once.

Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Refunds are covered by our refund policy.

TODO: confirm tax handling and whether prices are shown inclusive or exclusive of VAT or sales tax per region.

4. Your content stays yours

Your projects, footage and everything you make with them are yours. We claim no ownership and no licence to use them beyond what is technically needed to pass your data between the people you have invited into your own session.

The relay forwards frames between peers. It does not parse, index or store project data, and rooms are destroyed when the host leaves.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use Parallax to:

• break the law, or infringe somebody else’s copyright or other rights;
• get into a session you were not invited to, or interfere with someone else’s session;
• probe, overload or reverse-engineer the service beyond what local law allows;
• resell access, or share one account across a team to avoid paying for seats.

We can suspend an account that is doing any of the above, and will tell you why when we do.

6. The software

We license the panel to you for use with your subscription. It is not sold. You may install it on the machines you use. Do not redistribute modified builds under our name.

Parallax is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a product of Adobe. After Effects is a trademark of Adobe Inc.

7. Availability, changes and beta features

We aim to keep the service up but do not promise uninterrupted availability. Features can change, and anything we label beta may change or disappear. If we make a change that materially reduces what you are paying for, we will tell you in advance.

8. Warranties and liability

TODO: a lawyer needs to draft the warranty disclaimer and liability cap for the jurisdictions we sell into. The intent: the service is provided as-is, our liability is capped at the amount you paid us in the previous twelve months, and nothing limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Keep your own backups. Collaborative editing writes to your project; we are not liable for lost work, so save often and use version control or After Effects auto-save as you would anyway.

9. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We can end the agreement if you break these terms, or with reasonable notice if we stop offering the service. If we shut the service down, we will refund any period you have paid for in advance.

10. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, email you before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.
